FAQ
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a heightened state of awareness in which the subconscious mind becomes receptive to receive positive thoughts, suggestions, and images. It is a natural state that we already enter in and out of throughout our daily lives. When you drive down the road and miss a turn or get lost in a movie or your favorite song, those are all states of hypnosis.
What can I expect in my first session?
Step 1: We will spend some time discussing your goals and I will ask clarifying questions to help get to know you better.
Step 2: I will guide you through a series of suggestibility (how you learn) tests so that I can best determine how your mind prefers to learn and receive information.
Step 3: I will ease you into the hypnosis and using a combination of imagery, suggestions, and various deepening techniques according to your unique goals and suggestibility.
Step 4: you will come out of hypnosis feeling relaxed, alert, and a sense of well-being.
Why choose hypnotherapy?
Because it works! Did you know that approximately 88% of our behavior is governed by the subconscious mind? Our subconscious mind is what drives our behaviors, reactions, and motivations. Hypnotherapy is one of the easiest, most effective tools to replace limiting beliefs and behaviors with positive and long lasting change.
What does it feel to be hypnotized?
Everyone experiences hypnosis differently. For some people they feel pleasant physical sensations such as their breathing deepening, a heavy or floating feeling, or a tingling sensation. For others, they may not be aware of or experience a “feeling”at all. There are numerous ways in which people describe their sensations during trance. Nearly everyone states that they feel calm and relaxed after a hypnosis session.
Can I be hypnotized?
Yes. Everyone experiences hypnosis a little differently-but everyone has the ability to be hypnotized because it is a natural state that we enter in and out of every day.
Will I go to sleep?
Hypnosis is likened to the twilight state just before sleep or when just waking up. When in hypnosis, you will hear everything that is said and be aware of what is going on the whole time. Your mind may drift into different levels of awareness but you will not be sleeping.
Will I lose control of my mind and body and do or say silly things?
No, this is something you see on stage but is not what happens in a therapeutic session. You won’t do or say anything that you don’t want to, and it is not mind control. You will not cluck like a chicken or bark like a dog. You are in control the entire time and will not be compelled to do or say anything inappropriate or against your will.
What happens if I don’t come out of hypnosis?
This is impossible. All trances end, whether formally ended by the hypnotherapist or ended naturally by you.
How many sessions do I need?
This varies on the individual, what it is you are working on, and how proactive you are outside of our sessions. It is recommended that a new client work with a hypnotherapist for a minimum of 4-6 sessions that are one week apart, 10-12 sessions for longer standing issues, and some prefer to continue therapy in intervals for longer periods of time. Hypnosis does work quickly, it is not magic and results will not occur over night in most cases.
Can I see you in person?
At this time I am only seeing clients virtually.
